One Of The Boys.

Monday, January 17, 2011

Last year, while on vacation in the Philippines. Me and 4 (3 guys, 1 girl) other friends were drinking beer, talking about how (and why) men cheat on their partners, after having dinner, at our place.

Me: Nagwo-worry na sila (my family) na wala pa akong boyfriend.
GuyFriend: Tumigil ka dito (sa Pilipinas), wala pang isang taon may bofriend ka sigurado, kung gusto nila pede din na magka-baby ka na. Malilibog mga tao dito eh.

Other girl friend and I already laughing out loud.

GuyFriend: Hindi nga, totoo. Kami nga nagpro-proteksyon lang kasi ayaw ko pa magpa-kasal at magka-baby eh.

Male Cousin/Friend: Tang*nang 'to! (to Guy Friend)

Most times, I feel like my guy friends forget I'm actually a(n) (innocent) girl.

One of the many (too many according to Judi, Mamma, and a bunch of other people) things I do not like about gatherings is that at one point people always end up discussing about my love life, or lack of it.

Mamma, Tita Zeny, and I were talking, when E.V. entered the room.

E.V.: Ciao, Din! Blooming ka ah! (actually she said, "guma-ganda ka ah", but I'm pretty sure she actually meant "blooming", hehehe)

I smiled sheepishly.

E.V.: Ano may boyfriend na?
Me: Wala.
E.V.: Aba, tuma-tanda ka na ha!

I cringed.

Mamma: Ang suplada naman kasi nyan eh.
Me: Huh? Sino naman sinupladahan ko?
Tita Zeny: Oo nga naman. Tsaka bata pa naman si Dindin eh.

[Hah!]

E.V.: Ay, wag kang suplada. Pag may mga handaan maki-halubilo ka kasi sa mga ibang tao. Ang mga kina-kausap mo lang kasi mga dati mong kakilala kaya wala kang makilalang ibang tao eh.

[Pwe.]

You see, whenever I end up (being blackmailed) going to these "handaan", most people talk about other people they know, and I don't like talking about people I don't know, feeling ko kasi wala akong karapatan. Or they talk about "artistas", or telenovelas, and because we don't have TFC at home, I have no idea who or what they are talking about (which I honestly think is a good thing). I know, ours and one of my sister's are probably the only Pinoy household who do not have TFC.

And, if a guy needs someone else to ask me if I'd go out with him, I seriously think he doesn't deserve to be my, or anyone else's, boyfriend. I mean, I just turned 26, I left high school years ago. It is only acceptable to act as if you're still in high school when you're being mushy and/or cheesy with someone who is being mushy and/or cheesy with you too.

Anyway, what most people call "me being suplada", I call "me, minding my own business". I, thank you. Bow.

Fool-itics!

Wednesday, May 12, 2010

Most times I have a weird sense of humour that only a few people (mostly those who are close to me, or those who like me have a weird sense of humour) get and understand. There are times when I can find humour in the most normal, unhumorous things.

I don't like talking to people who do not have a sense of humour. Life would be too boring and too dragging, if you take everything too seriously and cannot laugh at yourself, every once in a while. I stopped following people on Twitter, unfriend some people on Facebook, and stopped reading some blogs, because I don't get their sense of humour, or lack of it. I'm not saying I have the best and greatest sense of humour in the whole wide world, but you know, last time I checked this is a free world. :-)

Twitter is one of my sources for funny things. A lot of people there are just plain hilarious. Smartmatic PCOS machine (@PCOSmachine) has a Twitter account, it's hilarious! Hahaha! You should follow it (I'm not following it, it tweets too much, but I do visit its page to read its tweet). And I got this one off Twitter too. If you are too sensitive, and do not understand humour, leave now.

Cheers Pilipinas, the new Springfield!

Highschool Reunion.

Friday, October 16, 2009

So there's a highschool reunion planned for December 27.

I might be in the Philippines for the Holidays. So a few days back, I was actually thinking of going to this reunion, because it's proabably the only reunion I'll get invited to, since I did not attend college in the Philippines.

But, then a few hours ago, I have come to a decision, I'm not going. Aside from the fact that the reunion's 2 days after Christmas, and I might be stuck with family reunions, I don't think my 2 other cousins-slash-batchmates are going either... I have a strong feeling that this "Batch 2001 Reunion" might actually turn out to be "Their Barkada's Reunion", and then I'll feel totally off rather than enjoying the party. And knowing that I can meet up with old friends I've had since highschool out of that reunion, because I'm still in touch with them, made deciding a lot easier. So, yeah.

Have fun those of you who are going! =)

On August 12, 2009, Rev, my almost 9-year-old cousin, and I decided to spend the afternoon at Fnac. While my cousin spent 2 hours at the video games section, I was a floor higher where the books are.

And this is what I found:

The whole 2 hours I was there, the guy kept on sleeping without moving a muscle.

Help Stop Animal Cruelty! Sign The Petition.

Monday, April 21, 2008

Let me just say that this Mr. Guillermo Vargas Habacuc is a GAGO.

In 2007 the 'artist' Guillermo Vargas Habacuc, took a dog from the street, tied him to a rope in an art gallery, and starved him to death.

Art Gone Too Far

DOG Guillermo Vargas Habacuc

For several days, the 'artist' and the visitors of the exhibition have watched emotionless the shameful 'masterpiece' based on the dog's agony, until eventually he died.

DOG Guillermo Vargas Habacuc,

DOG Guillermo Vargas Habacuc

Does it look like art to you?

DOG Guillermo Vargas Habacuc

But this is not all... the prestigious Visual Arts Biennial of the Central American decided that the 'installation' was actually art, so that Guillermo Vargas Habacuc has been invited to repeat his cruel action for the biennial of 2008

It takes a second to help put a stop to animal abuse

DOG Guillermo Vargas Habacuc

sign the petition to stop this a**hole by going to

Normally "un-normal".

Saturday, April 12, 2008

Year 2006.
One morning, on the phone:

her: Can you stay long on the phone? What you doin'?

me: Vacuuming.

her: Did you not vacuum the house yesterday? You know, you don't have to vacuum every single day.

me: I know.

her: Oh no, please tell me you're not vacuuming the vacuum cleaner.

me: I'm not vacuuming the vacuum cleaner.

her: But you are, aren't you?

me: ...

her: You're not so normal. Call me when you're done.

That afternoon, at home, watching Rising Sun (take note: on VHS):

her: See, this is what I'm talking about. You are not normal.

me: What?

her: What did you just do?

me: So? I think it's too loud.

her: No. You saw that the TV's volume was on 6, and you had to put it on 7. For you, the television volume has to be on a certain number.

me: So?

her: What do you mean, "so?" That's not normal.

me: What?

her: Remember when we stayed in a hotel for 3 days and 2 nights, and you insisted on fixing your bed for THREE-DAYS-AND-TWO-NIGHTS? I mean, there are people who are paid to do that. And we were on vacation! Then, your books, oh, your books! Your books are alphabetically arranged, using the author's last name. And last week, when I asked you to come with me and help me do the grocery? Remember the teenager who dropped a box of Durex? Even if there was a group of old Filipino women staring at you, you still felt the urge to pick that box and put it back on the rack. And this morning, you were vacuuming the vacuum cleaner, for goodness' sake!

me: So? I want my things neat and clean. And in order. Is that so bad?

her: Neat? Clean? In order? Din, you're messy. You have your own kind of mess, but you are messy. And you're also maniacal.

me: Okei, some times I am with some things. But that doesn't mean I'm not normal. Or does it?

her: Well, most of the time, you're fastidious, but then again, you're messy. Din, you're a living contradiction.

me: So, you think I should see someone?

her: Like who? Sean Connery?

me: No. A doctor.

And I'm the one who's not normal...

Off to bed! Night-night! =)

Will & Grace... and Din?

Friday, April 04, 2008

Circa 2003

She 1: Din, I think you need a Will.

Me: Huh?

She 2: No, she needs a Grace. A male-gay version of Grace.

Me: Why?

She 2: Because you're the female-hetero version of Will. So, what you need is a male-gay version of Grace.

She 1: Yeah, you are the female-hetero version of William Truman! We need to find you a Grace.

She 2: A male-gay version of Grace.

She 1: Or maybe a Jack.

Me: I'm not Karen. I'm poor. And I don't have an Anastasia Beaverhausen-like alias. Though, I won't mind having a Jack.

She 1: But then again, you don't love happy pills and vodka.

She 2: No, a male-gay version of Grace is what you really need.

She 1: Yeah, I agree... I want a Rosario.

Haaayyy.. Those were the days, days when we had too much time to spare... I wonder where those two are now. I sort of miss them. =(

P.S.
Yes, Will & Grace is one of my favourites.

P.P.S.
And after watching Will & Grace's last episode, I sure don't mind having my own Jack. Haha! =P

Monday, March 31, 2008

her: 'Bat gising ka pa? Alas-cinco na dyan ah?

me: Ewan ko. Mag-one week na, na I'd suddenly wake up in the middle of the night, for no reason.

her: And 5 AM is the middle of the night?

me: Yes. 3, 4, 5. Yung mga oras na dapat tulog ako, middle of the night yon.

her: Someone's probably thinking of you.

me: Huh?

her: Sabi ni mommy, pag daw hindi ka makatulog or bigla ka nagigising ng hindi mo alam kung bakit, ibig sabihin may nag-iisip sa'yo.

me: Then that someone should be the one who's not sleeping, not me. Right? I mean, since that person's the one who's thinking, and I'm not. Di ba? Di ba?

her: Ewan ko, hindi naman ako ang gumawa ng kasabihan eh. Yun sabi sa'kin ni mommy eh.

me: Tsaka, hello?? Sino namang matinong tao na sa dinami-daming oras para mag-isip eh alas-3, alas-4 at alas-5 pa mag-iisip, imbes na matulog??

her: Nag-salita ang matino?

her: Hindi ko alam. Pero i-try mo na din, malay mo mag-work.

me: Eh sino mumurahin ko? Hindi ko nga alam kung sinong hindi nagpapatulog sa'kin eh.. Pano yon, "To whom it may concern..."?

her: Oo nga noh.

But just in case...

To whom it may concern,

Please lang, patulugin mo na ako. Stop thinking na and go to sleep. Or please tell me who you are, so that I can curse you. That way you can continue thinking and I can continue sleeping. Thankyouverymuch.

I Knew I Loved You... (Before I Met You).

Friday, March 14, 2008

I'm almost sure that I first heard Savage Garden back when I was in grade school, I instantly fell in love with them, their songs actually. And I still "do" like them.

"Truly Madly Deeply" was the first.

I'll be your dream,
I'll be your wish,
I'll be your fantasy.

I'll be your hope,
I'll be your love,
Be everything that you need.

I love you more with every breath
Truly Madly Deeply do.
(Don't you just love that "do"? Sing it with me, "Truly Madly Deeply do...")

I will be strong, I will be faithful,
'Cos I'm counting on a new beginning.
A reason for living.
A deeper meaning.

Tapos there was "I Want You" (definitely not my favourite), "To The Moon And Back", "Break Me, Shake Me".

Then, came "I Knew I Loved You".
(Until 2001, I had no idea na si Kirsten Dunst pala yung girl sa video! At times, I'm such a dork! Hahaha!)

Back then, everyone I knew was telling (more like convincing) me that this song's a love song and I totally agreed, it IS a love song, it's just that, for me, it's more of an UNromantic love song. I don't know, I had a hard time agreeing on this line kasi eh: "I knew I loved you before I met you". From the first time that I heard this song, being the person that I am, I always thought (and most times, I still do) that this is a song that parents would sing/dedicate to their soon-to-be-born baby. Read the lyrics, how can you not agree with me? =D

So now, I'm dedicating this to the soon-to-be parents and soon-to-be-born babies!

Maybe it's intuition
But some things you just don't question
Like in your eyes
I see my future in an instant
And there it goes
I think I've found my best friend
I know that it might sound more than a little crazy
But I believe

I knew I loved you before I met you
I think I dreamed you into life
I knew I loved you before I met you
I have been waiting all my life

There's just no rhyme or reason
Only this sense of completion
And in your eyes
I see the missing pieces
I'm searching for
I think I've found my way home

Anyway, let me get to the point of this post...

Dearest Soon-to-be-born baby of soon-to-be-mum Liliana,

This post is to attest (someday) that I did not forget that your mummy's preggy. =)
And, I'm writing this in english because your Mamma said, "My baby will speak fluent english, by hook or by crook!"

She's driving everyone crazy with her mood swings, treating everyone so bad, and accusing us of forgetting the fact that she's pregnant (I mean, how is that even possible?) and that you will hate us for that. But, it's all good. =D

This is how your mum looked like when she was younger and nicer. =p
No photos of her with the tummy, because she doesn't want us to take pictures of her with the "big tummy".

lily-stairs

lily-classroom

Good luck, Lily!!! You're due on May!!! Breathe in, breathe out... Push....
Don't worry you're going to be a great mum! =)

Can't wait for your baby boy or girl! Why don't you want to know the baby's gender anyway?

P.S.
Lily, even though you're treating everyone like shìt, we love you still!

P.P.S.
Here's Darren Hayes of Savage Garden with "So Beautiful"
. Lavett!

Bulol Palos.

Monday, March 03, 2008

Mas maganda (nakaka-tawa) sana kung may "sound effect" yung kwento.

Back in high school...

Me: Tayo na kasi, ako na muna ang mag-aabono [pay the difference], gutom na ako.

Friend: Itatanim mo ang kakainin natin? San mo balak mag-tanim? (she was being sarcastically funny)

I say (yes, I still do, hindi ko ma-control eh, and I can't seem to remember how to say it rightly) "abono" the wrong way, and every time I say it the way I do, everyone I'm not (directly) talking to thinks I'm referring to a fertilizer.

A few months ago...

Me: Saan parte yun Ta-gig, gano yun kalayo dito?

Cousin: Anong Ta-gig?

I showed him how it was written.

Cousin: 'Nak ng... Taguig!! Ate, alas-3 na, tayo na matulog.

A few weeks ago...

Me: Ano ba ibig sabihin ng pa-los?

Friend: Yung parang lumo-lobo sa balat mo, pag-gasgas na.

Me: Ha? Lobo? Pag-gasgas ang balat?

Friend: Yung may tubig sa loob.

Cousin: Pare, paltos yun!

Minutes later...

Me: Anong ibig sabihin ng pa-los?

Tito's friend: Yung ano, yung gumagapang na parang malaking bulate na kulay itim.

Me: Parang bulate na kulay itim???

Tito's friend: Oo, naka-kain ka na nun eh.

Me: Ha?? Kumain ng bulate? Ako??

Tito's friend: Oo, tanda mo nung kumain tayo dun sa ristawran [restaurant] ng hapon?

Friend: Pare, isda yun, hindi yun bulate! Din, yung anguilla [Italian for "eel"].

Me: Ahh.

Nakaka-loka! The conversations we have every time we get together, and to think we're not kids anymore, I'm 23 and I'm usually always the youngest!

Just for the record, I am not bulol, but I've been advised to go to diction school, more than once, kasi madalas ang gulo daw ng punto [accent] ko pag-nag-tatagalog ako. Meron ba diction school para sa Tagalog?

Anyway, for my peace of mind, I googled ABS-CBN's Palos when I got home. He's like the Italian Diabolik! Now, I'm wondering... Who copied who?

From Wikipedia:
"Alyas Palos (Alias Eel) is a comic serial novel by Virgilio and Nestor Redondo, which was first (1st) serialized in Tagalog Klasiks in 1961."

"Diabolik is a fictional character, an anti-hero featured in Italian comics. He was created by sisters Angela and Luciana Giussani in 1962."

Palos was born in 1961 and Diabolik in 1962, but if you check the names of the (Palos) characters, they all sound a little too Italian, don't they? Oh, well... I guess it's not that important anyway.

Sabi ko na nga ba eh, we need TFC at home na.

Powerful power.

Friday, February 29, 2008

Most of my titas who live in the Philippines are still a little paranoid about meeting people online, and I have a cousin who is was so paranoid about chatting online that when I told her I chatted with an old friend from grade school, she asked me, "sigurado ka na sya 'yon?".

I don't have problems meeting people online. I mean, ano ba talaga ang pinagka-iba meeting and exchanging numbers with someone you meet in a bar, bus stop or online? The first and last time I entered (tama ba yung term na 'yon, entered?) a chat room, MTV Asia's chat room to be exact, was 2002, and I am glad to say that after all these years I am still in contact and friends with people I met there. Some new friends I met via blogging and some via being a fanatic, haha. I know the full name, mobile number and home address of more than half of those people and they also know mine (if we don't live in an apartment house, hindi ko alam kung ibinigay ko ang home address ko, living on the 2nd floor of an old but nice building can give you that feeling of being safe kasi eh). And yes, I've met some of them in person, and have not met others only because we never had the chance to.

Now, what I'm paranoid about are text mates, and a stalker I had back in high school has nothing to do with the paranoia. Yesterday, I received a text message that reads "gandang gabi" or something like that. I checked on who the message was from, I was not surprised when I saw a couple of numbers instead of a name. Kasi hindi naman lahat ng kilala ko na alam na yung Globe number ko, naka-save na sa akin yung number nila. When I asked who the sender was, the texter replied na na wrong send daw sya. Bigla ako napa-isip, ako na-wro-wrong send lang with people na naka-save na sa phone book ko. I mean, come on. If it was a voice call via an analog phone, maiintindihan ko pa, but a text message... Hmmm.

Someone I know (more like, someone my mum knows) is getting married before May ends. She's a single 40+ year old and he's a couple of years older (if I'm not mistaken), a father, and a widower. Nothing extraordinary. Except that they live in 2 different continents and well, they have never been together, as in they've never seen each other in person pa. They used to be text mates, and ayun, after a year, more or less, of exchanging text messages and phone calls every now and then, they fell in love and they decided to tie the knot. They're both going back to the Philippines next week, to finish and check how the wedding preparations are going, and well, to see each other for the first time. I must admit, there's something romantic about first times, but... some things I just don't get.

I have no problem with people who fall in love with their text mates, someone they met online, in a bar or at a bus stop. Seriously, I personally know people who met their partner online and one of my cousins met his ex-girlfriend online. And that's my point, meeting and having a (romantic) relationship are two different things. Being friends, falling in love, even starting a relationship, with someone you haven't touch or had an eye-to-eye moment with (and do not know how he/she smells! Heheh!), I can understand, PERO to marry or move-in with someone you haven't touch or had an eye-to-eye moment with (and, again, do not know how he/she smells!) is something my young mind can not understand. But then again, maybe my friend's right, maybe I'm just being too distrustful and still too young to understand things like this.

Too early in the morning, I didn't have the power and didn't really want to contradict my friend, so still half asleep, I just agreed on what she had to say. Taking a break from talking about her ex-boyfriend, she started to talk about, well, love.. On how she understand why people do things that others cannot and probably will never understand, things that are totally irrational. And how everything will eventually turn out well. And, according to her, how all these things are possible thanks to the power of love.

But honestly, can love really be that powerful?

P.S.
Sorry, I tend to over-analyse everything whenever I'm in this state.

Hehehe.

The last time I visited P.I., October 2007, I had a list of things to buy with me and this DVD was on the list, pero wala ako nakita on sale. I've been wanting to see this film ever since people (online), year 2005, started raving about it, bottom line: A must-see film.

Finally, I now have my own copy of "Ang Pagdadalaga ni Maximo Oliveros" (The Blossoming of Maximo Oliveros).

Me: Ahh.. I don't have a FaceBook account eh.

Move first.

Monday, January 07, 2008

While I think it's okei for a girl to do the first move, as long as it's "calm", unaggressive, and elegant (as in, a simple smile or a "Hi", eye contact, flirting, things like that), I still believe that the man (yep, I said man) should do the first big obvious (read: not hints or paramdam) move, syempre with all the respeto naman (they don't call you a man for nothing).

Unless you're Angelina Jolie (by the way, I assure you, you are not), do not treat the guy's girl friends with so much rudeness. That's just wrong. And a definite turn-off.

I'm no expert on these things, obviously, but I sure know that he didn't ask you to go out for a drink, hehehe.

Unbelievable, what some girls would say or do to get a guy's attention. Tsk.
